Itinerary:

This comprehensive tour of Iceland  highlights the natural wonders, majestic landscapes, and the unique character of this enchanting country. This is a classic circle tour that provides the perfect mix of culture and nature. The accent is on the nature and countrylife and all the wonders it has to offer: waterfalls, National Parks, glacial lagoons and rivers, hot springs and much more

Day 1  : Arrival

Your tour of Iceland starts today! Transfer from Keflavik to the hotel (optional). Overnight in Reykjavik.

 

Day 2  : Geysir – Gullfoss – Skógar – Dyrhólaey - Vík (208 mi)

We start our day with breakfast at the hotel and a short city tour of Reykjavik. Our next destination is famous Golden Circle of Icelandic Natural Wonders. We will explore the "Golden Waterfall" Gullfoss and the nearby hot spring area with famous Geysir and Strokkur hot springs, and many other boiling mud pools and smaller hot springs. Continue our drive along the south shore and stop to admire the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, to Dyrholaey* nature reserve. Continue to the village of Vik. Dinner and overnight stay in the Vik area (B, D)

*Please note that Dyrholaey is closed during nesting season in spring, approximately mid-May until June 25th.

Day 3  : Vík - Skaftafell National Park - Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon - Höfn (190 mi)

Today you will cross the largest mass of lava ever to flow on the earth, Eldhraun, and reach the small town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur in the south of Iceland between Vík í Mýrdal and Höfn.  We will continue to Skaftafell National Park over Skeiðarársandur sands to the stunning Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, the birthplace of icebergs. Throughout the day we are afforded magnificent views of the mighty Vatnajökull Glacier. Dinner and overnight in the Höfn area (B)

Day 4  : Höfn - East Fjords - Egilsstaðir (193 mi)

East Fjords and Mountains and Picturesque Coastline
In the morning we drive from through Almannaskarð pass, with stunning coastline views along the way. The towering mountains plunge vertically into the sea forming magnificent East Fjords. Dinner and overnight in the Egilsstaðir area (B)

Day 5  : Lake Mývatn Area (190 mi)

Modrudalsoraefi  Highland Desert  Bizarre Lava Formations  Dettifoss - Geothermal & Volcanic Activity at Námaskarð Pass  Rich Birdlife  Protected Salmon River

Our tour of Iceland continues to Lake Myvatn area through the empty vastness of the Modrudalsoraefi highland desert plateau.  We stop at  Europe's most powerful waterfall Dettifoss and continue to Námaskarð pass,  where we see otherworldly hot sulfuric mud springs and steam springs. Black rivers and bubbling pools of sulfuric mud cut through a steaming landscape rich with colorful minerals. Námaskarð is a magnificent example of how alien our planet’s natural landscapes can be. We finally reach Lake Myvatn area with the pseudo craters at Skutustadir and the Laxa River.  Lake Myvatn boast a very diverse birdlife and claims to be home to more species of ducks than any other place on Earth. Dinner and overnight stay in the Myvatn area (B, D)

Day 6  : Lake Mývatn Area - Akureyri - Siglufjordur (100 mi)

After breakfast our adventure continues, We start the day by exploring lava formations at Dimmuborgir. Visit the magnificent Godafoss waterfall and the old turf farm Laufas. Continue to the northern capital of Iceland - Akureyri, the town with charming architecture and the stunning views of the Eyjafjordur.  Spend some time to Akureyri,  and continue your trip along the coastal road to Eyjafjordur and the Troll Peninsula. Enjoy a pleasant drive along mountains with views of the Arctic Sea and black sand coastline.  Our next destination is Siglufjordur, a little town set in a beautiful fjord, known for beautifully restored old timber buildings. Spend the evening exploring Siglufjordur and having dinner on your own.  Overnight in Siglufjörður. Dinner is on your own (B)

Day 7  : Skagafjörður - Borgarnes (205 mi)

Another majestic fjord is part of our tour of Iceland. We drive by the stunning mountains and narrow passages to Skagafjörður. We will pass the village of Blönduós spread on both sides of the Blanda river with Hrútey Island, a protected nature reserve. Afterward, we cross the Holtavörðuheiði plateau,  Borgarfjörður and end in the beautiful town of Borgarnes. Dinner and overnight in the Borgarnes area (B)

Day 8  : Borgarfjörður - Þingvellir - Reykjavík (143 mi)

Europe’s Largest Hot Spring  Picturesque Waterfalls – National Park with Geological Wonders (UNESCO)
Today we drive to the most powerful hot spring in the world Deildartunguhver. We will stop to admire Hraunfossar waterfalls and continue to the breathtaking Kaldidalur mountain pass. The journey continues to Lake Þingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest lake, and Þingvellir National Park, the ancient site of the world’s first parliament held outdoors. We spend the  last overnight n Reykjavik (B)

Day 9  : Departure
